Microchipping

From 6th April 2016 the Government is enforcing compulsory Microchipping for all dogs.

Oakmount Veterinary Centre are pleased to announce that we are offering Microchipping for £10

What is a Microchip?

Microchipping is one of the ways to permanently identify your pet. The microchip (about the size of a grain of rice) has a unique 15 digit identity code. The microchip is implanted quickly and easily in between the shoulder blades of your pet by a Veterinary Surgeon/Nurse or other suitably trained person.

How it works...

The microchip remains electronically inactive until scanned by a microchip scanner. If your pet is lost or stolen and found by the Police, the Dog Warden, RSPCA, Rescue Centres, Charities or any Veterinary Surgeon, they will be scanned to detect their number. This number is then checked against the database ensuring that whatever the day, date or time your pet can always be traced back to their home.

Registration onto the National Database...

The Microchip MUST be registered onto a National Database. Oakmount Veterinary Centre use Anibase the UK's original and most advanced Pet Database. The owner's details are kept on this database and these records can be accessed by authorised personel 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Oakmount Veterinary Centre take care of the initial registration online with all the details you provide.

Keeping your details up to date...

It is essential to keep your details up to date in order for your pet to be identified should they go missing. From 6th April 2016 this will become a legal requirement for all dogs. Amending your details on ANIBASE is quick and easy with online access available 24/7. Initial registration is carried out by the staff at Oakmount Veterinary Centre but the rest is up to you. A small fee is required for any subsequent change in these records. However the change of email addresses/telephone numbers can be done free of charge. This small administration charge is essential to contribute to the running costs of ANIBASE where they provide trained staff on the end of a phone 24/7 365 days per year.

The £10 offer applies not only to our canine companions as we at Oakmount realise the importance of all lost animals finding their way home with a little help. Every week we are asked to scan found pets and have distraught owners looking for lost ones so we have taken the decision to continue with our special offer of £10 microchipping for all other pets.  This includes initial online registration on the national database.

If you have any questions please speak to one of our trained staff who will also book an appointment for your pet.
