Clinical Director

Dr Sheryl Calway
Dr Sheryl Calway BVMS MRCVS GpCertExAP Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified from Glasgow school of veterinary medicine in 2001. After working in a variety of small animal practices in and around Blackburn, I spent a year splitting my time between teaching and locum-vet work.

However, my true passion has always been working with exotic animals.

In May 2018 I successfully gained my Certificate in Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery (GpCert ExAP) and I am now, finally, coming to the end of my PgC course.

If all goes to plan, I will hopefully be awarded this in July 2021, and this will be the final step in becoming a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons recognised Advanced Practitioner in exotics.

I absolutely and totally love my job!

I am continually amazed by the huge variety of different species that people keep as pets. Thankfully, I thrive on the challenge of advising owners about the care and management of such a spectrum of animals!

No two days are ever the same when it comes to what medical or surgical problems we are presented with, and for that I feel very lucky!

Another privilege is being involved in the care of sick or injured wildlife and I also am an active veterinary volunteer for Street Paws, a highly worthwhile charity providing free veterinary care to animals living on the streets or with their owners in poverty.
