Bespoke rehabilitation programs tailored to each patient
Hydrotherapy is an effective rehabilitation treatment as well as a safe and enjoyable way of exercising. Here at Oakmount Hydrotherapy Centre our dedicated, fully qualified nurses work alongside you and your dog to develop an individual treatment programme to improve the quality of your pet's life.
We use an aquatic treadmill that provides controlled exercise in a supported and safe environment. The water level and the time spent in the treadmill make up the bespoke rehabilitation program that can be tailored to each patient. It allows low impact exercise when weight bearing exercise is neither possible nor advisable. By altering the water level, specific joints on the patient can be targeted.
The aquatic treadmill works on both the extension and flexion of a joint, thus increasing the range of movement. The water is heated to 30 degrees C and its thermal properties provide pain relief and an increased perfusion of blood to tissues. Hydrotherapy can also be used to re-educate gait patterns after paralysis.
